The series MultiLayer Embodiment deals with various aspects of physicality and was created during Hartel’s “intermedial artist boot camp” in the digital art space Munich.
In this series, Hartel collages stills from moving images. They are video works that she has processed in a video/room installation. Body parts and body shapes enter into synergies with each other to stimulate the physical perceptibility of inspiration. Via an augmented reality overlay, she continues the layering and shows moving image sections that overlap with the collages by means of an app.

Through the further development of the app, the artwork is constantly evolving. Intermedial and in layers, Manuela Hartel researched the measurability and visualizability of inspiration, intuition and charisma in the digital art space and addressed the question of the divine in the process of creation with an opera singer, a dancer and a performer. In a concluding exhibition, she interweaved digital print, collage, performance and video into the expansive installation entitled: HAUCH.

Perception in the field of tension between nature and the supernatural, as well as the meaningfulness of our existence in the context of faith, religion and ritual are focal points of her artistic practice. The “intermedial artist boot camp” is the first of three modules in which she practices “layering / unlayering”. In Module III, Manuela Hartel brings together the sections with dancer Rosalie Wanka, performer Maren Montauk aka composer Maren Kessler and opera singer Rachael Wilson to form a hybrid, multimedia performance project.

The exhibition HAUCH (“Breath”) could be visited in the digital art space, Munich, until May 31st, 2022.
