On Tuesday, 17.10.23, STATION ROSE will give the performance lecture “STATION ROSE 35.0
back < into >> the FUTURE ∞ delivering Digital Art since 1988” at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, AIL/Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab, Platform for art, science and artistic research.
STATION ROSE studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, in the masterclasses of Oswald Oberhuber & Karl Lagerfeld, some time ago.
AIL is situated in the famous Jugendstil building Postsparkasse by Otto Wagner at The Ring Vienna. What an extraordinary place to lecture on 35 Digital Years, a petite STATION ROSE media installation is planned for this staging as well. Jugendstil will meet The Digital Archive, with many audio visual examples. And NOW STATION ROSE really looks forward to speaking there again. In 2018 they made a performance at AIL already, presenting the catalog “30.0 The Walls of the New Systems Will Be Liquid”, published by De Gruyter & Angewandte, including Augmented Reality. “Liquid Walls”, a term that is still more than valid. Aren’t we all in a non-stop-world building-process? It is getting more & more intense, the energy becomes tangibly STRonger every day. So let’s get going, surrounded by virtual sculptures & entities, extending our realities. STATION ROSE reached 35 Digital Years on 11/3/23. In the “35.0” Performance Lecture the artist duo will provide insight into their digital work, music & art forms from 1988-2023. Examples will be made visible & audible. It will be about both their Digital Art History, the Future & NOW ∞
Artist Elisa Rose & composer Gary Danner, pioneers of digital culture & online since 1991, will quickly jump between decades, over-& underground spaces & extended realities: 1988 immediately becomes 2018, when they transferred their early digital work to new systems, and made it available. The NFT “Substation”, originally a digital work from 1988 on floppy disk first shown in their Viennese Station, was dropped on the NFT Platform Foundation in 2021, and subsequently became a particle of a room installation in a solo gallery show in 2021/22. Other transformations of the works are from GIF Anis to installations, from CD ROMs to the sensory experience & emotional intensity of immersivity & audiovisual performances. Early works meet current works in AR & VR & in RL. Also, new 3D objects can be found both as NFTs in the blockchain, in nature, as 3D prints & as elements in their VR world “Gunafaland”. The 3D NFTs can appear in their AR versions in the Postsparkasse.
As STATION ROSE had always maintained very strong contact with the electronic music scene, the last immersive audiovisual performances had taken place again in the club scene, and over a hundred audio compositions have been released.
