Munich-based media artist Barbara Herold explores the interrelationship between the real and digital worlds, using video, animation, graphics, installation, and digital formats. She develops playful systems and experiential spaces in the real-digital threshold space.
For the exhibition [resetNOW!], the artist developed a space-based XR Experience. “Half-Cab TS” is a constructivist space engine, a perpetuum mobile of static “machine parts” and virtual-kinetic elements. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves via app in the metaspace between front- and backside, void and tilting moment.
Barbara Herold (b. 1977) works both as a solo artist and in collaborative projects at the intersections of man and machine, nature and artificiality. In recent years, the artist has developed a series of AR installations for mobile devices, which can be experienced as geo-based augmented reality in Munich, Würzburg, Esslingen and Vienna, among other places. In 2022/2023 she was a fellow of the Villa Concordia in Bamberg. Currently, her online lockdown game “Quarantine Daze Composer” (2020) can be experienced at SaarArt 2023 at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Saarlouis, and the video “Void” (2016) by Herold & Huth can be seen until Aug. 11 in the group exhibition “Wastelands” at Platform Munich.
