UNPAINTED artist Manuela Hartel provides a suggestive visual framework with her video art during a concert in the rotunda of the Pinakothek.
The orchestra
The orchestra is the blueprint of society . What makes orchestras so unique? How does a human space filled with sound emerge from musicians? How do different room acoustics of the Pinakothek der Moderne respond to the musical phenomena? How does video art manage to look inward and re-explore contemplative experience together with music, while both arts retain their autonomy? Through the conceived interaction of different ensembles of six renowned string quartet ensembles in the light of video art by Manuela Hartel we experience on 9.12. in the Pinakothek der Moderne Munich what creates ‘the whole’, which is more than the sum of its parts.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Pinakothek der Moderne, Festival4 initiates an innovative project “Mensch – Klang – Raum – Moderne”, the first string quartet Biennale in Germany. We use the interiors of this architecturally significant museum building by Stephan Braunfels with its 3-storey rotunda and the two side stairs as a playing area for various string quartet ensembles with contemporary music. The audience experiences auditory-visual and walking in the various sound spaces, can find their own positions and experience the music and its ensembles visually and acoustically anew.
