In the Art Review Power 100 ranking, the first place this year is not a human being. Since 2007, the American art magazine Art Review has compiled a ranking of the most influential personalities in the global art scene. The jury is increasingly breaking new ground: In 2020, the civil rights movement Black Lives Matter was number one. For the first time, no individual was chosen, but a social movement. This year, the magazine goes even further: The first place in the ranking is occupied by the NFT protocol ERC-721. Certainly not without reason: NFT (Non-Fungible Token) have triggered an unprecedented boom in the art world this year, especially in digital art. Numerous new platforms have emerged to trade NFTs. The highlight so far was a transaction in March, when the hitherto largely unknown artist Beeple (bourgeois Mike Winkelmann) auctioned his digital work “Everydays – The First 5000 Days” as NFT for USD 69 million together with the auction house Christie’s – UNPAINTED reported.
