A sleep cycle in music and space by trio.s
Concert – trio.s
Video installation – Manuela Hartel
Everyone spends a third of their lives asleep. Night after night we dive into an unknown, enigmatic and sometimes frightening state. Shielded from the world, defenseless and alone with ourselves.
What happens to us when we sleep?
Why do we sleep at all?
These questions are probably among the oldest of mankind. While we sleep peacefully on the outside and explore fantastic worlds in our dreams, an extraordinary process begins inside, which follows the same dramaturgy night after night…
In melaTONin you can experience what is otherwise in the dark. Our sleep. A sleep cycle with all its phases – falling asleep, light sleep, deep sleep and REM phase are translated in this concert installation into an extraordinary conception of space, sound, text and video installation. Folk and art songs, suitable for the respective sleep phase and specially arranged for the special instrumentation, are combined with contemporary accordion works, poetry and texts from sleep research.
Room-filling to room-dissolving video installations, sometimes sketchily drawn or disturbingly real, create the fusion between sound and space and open up new possibilities of hearing and perception.
