Irmin Rodenstock Beck and Benedict Rodenstock, the two UNPAINTED makers, were guests at Munich Speech® on 15/11/2020 from 19:30 to 20:00. The live stream was broadcast on Zoom and Instagram at Munich Speech and UNPAINTED. Dietlinde Behncke, journalist and initiator of the series of talks, interviewed the two founders. A recording of the interview can be viewed here on YouTube.

It was an exciting conversation with the key munich figures of the young digital art scene and the assembled virtual audience

In 2013 it was the founders’ idea to create with UNPAINTED an international platform for the mediation of digital art, which organized exhibitions and especially the first fair for media art. “We wanted to pay more attention to digital art as the most contemporary art form and to present it as a matter of course to collectors and art lovers in the digital age with a trade fair format,” explains Rodenstock. “Unlike conventional art fairs, UNPAINTED not only registers art galleries, but also artists without gallery connections – and also online” (art magazine PARNASS „Kunstherbst 2019“). In February 2016, shortly before the opening of their second trade fair for media art, they were already guests at The Munich Speech®. The company has since been expanded into a platform, with a blog, advisory and an online artstore. Now Dietlinde asked: What has become of UNPAINTED right now, in times of “social distance”?

Munich Speech® is an exclusive, international, non-profit series of events for discussions on contemporary art and culture. The name “Munich Speech” is based on the “Speeches about our own country: Germany” in the Kammerspiele, 1985 with Joseph Beuys. Designed and moderated by Dietlinde Behncke (journalist, former cultural editor ZDF-Hauptstadtstudio Berlin) it is about positions / personalities that change Munich, who give Munich visions and who receive a direct podium through Munich Speech®. Previous guests included 2014’s Bart van der Heide (Director Kunstverein Munich), 2015 Matthias Lilienthal (Intendant Kammerspiele München), 2017 Dr. Roger Diederen (Director Kunsthalle München), 2018 Dr. Angelika Nollert (Director Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum in the Pinakothek der Moderne) or 2019 the Munich conductor Alexander Liebreich (Artistic Director Richard Strauss-Festival- Garmisch-Partenkirchen).
